Maxwell Caulfield and Lois Robbins will star in a revival of Abe Burrows' Cactus Flower at off-Broadway's Westside Theatre. Michael Bush will direct the production, which begins performances February 24 ahead of a March 10 opening.
The cast of Cactus Flower also include Anthony Reimer (Rescue Me), John Herrera (The Times They Are A-Changin'), Robin Skye (Parade) and Jeremy Bobb (Is He Dead?), with two additional cast members to be announced at a later date.
Cactus Flower follows Julian Winston (Caulfield), a handsome, middle-aged dentist who finds himself in trouble when he lies to his young girlfriend by claiming he is already married. The girlfriend then demands to meet his fictional wife (Robbins). The comedy first opened on Broadway on December 8, 1965, and ran for 1,234 performances. The 1969 film adaptation starred Walter Matthau, Oscar winner Goldie Hawn and Ingrid Bergman.
Caulfield has appeared on Broadway in Chicago, An Inspector Calls and Once a Catholic. He has also appeared off-Broadway in Entertaining Mr. Sloane, Our Leading Lady, Tryst, My Night With Reg and Salonika. His many film credits include Grease 2 and Empire Records. Robbins has appeared on TV's Sex and the City, Kingpin and Law & Order.
The production will feature scenic design by Anna Louizos, lighting by Philip Rosenberg, costumes by Karen Ann Ledger and sound design by Brad Berridge.Cactus Flower will be produced off-Broadway by Daryl Roth Productions and Stonehill Productions.
